This time, our Medical Technologies division participated with the aim to present ultrasound devices in conjunction with special surgery probes from Hitachi’s portfolio to the doctors. Furthermore, we have presented the option of displaying individual sonographic examinations by the current very progressive elastography method.  At our stand we introduced and at the same time with the help of special phantoms practically demonstrated the Arietta 70 and Highend Arietta 850 device in conjunction with the above-mentioned surgery probes. A great interest in these devices has been shown.

Porges Division

The aim of the Porges division was to acquaint the physician with an innovation for laparoscopic surgery Elefant (single suction / rinse) and its use in practice. Next we introduced our third generation – ReTrace (ureteral access sheaths) to our clients. An integral part of the congress are also various lectures and seminars, where we traditionally learn the latest news of modern medicine in the urology field.

The annual conference also has its social part, this time it was held in one of the most important architectural gems of the Czech Republic, namely in the neo-Renaissance Žofín Palace.
By participation in this congress we have not only strengthened our relationships with the existing clients, but at the same time we have also expanded the circle of our potential clients in the field of urology.

Elastography workshop II

PROMEDICA INSTITUT s.r.o. in cooperation with the ISCARE Clinical Centre organized for the PROMEDICA PRAHA GROUP, a.s., and its Medical Technology Division the second course of the 1st year of the seminar dealing with the topic of ultra sonographic elastography. Great Flight

This year, the joint effort of the Czech Spitfire Club and Promedica resulted in the reconstruction of a historic event from 1938. Both members of the Club and our company worked on the preparation. The event called “The Great Flight” draws attention to the heroism of eight Czechoslovak pilots; the activity is to humble and deeply remind the extraordinary personalities and their legacy that should not be forgotten. There were three reasons for this flight. The first was that our Czech and Slovak history has a number of interesting and important events that are not well known and it is good to inform about them. The second aim was to remind the public of our war fighting pilots as well as the fact that even the mere journey to the RAF was dangerous and harsh. The third reason was the memory of our late Brigadier General Imrich Gablech, holder of the White Lion Order.

The reconstruction focused on repeating the flight paths that these heroes had flown years ago. They took off from the military airport in Piešťany from the territory of the so-called Slovak state. At that time, four military aircrafts with eight airmen started from Piešťany. These soldiers decided not to serve the Nazis, but quite the opposite, to stand up against this monstrous ideology with a weapon in hand.

Despite some problems, they all came to Polish Deblin, where (as it is at present) was a military aviation school. They joined the Polish Air Force and engaged in fighting the Nazis. However, after the fall of Poland, several of them fell into the Red Army’s captivity, after that they spent long years of suffering and misery in the Gulag. Eventually, they all reached the Great Britain, where they served in the British Royal Air Force. Some of them fell in the war, some of them stayed abroad after the war. Those who returned, were exposed to communist persecution after 1948.

On 6th June 2019 the aircraft An-2 took off from Jihlava to Piešťany at 3 pm. After landing in Piešťany, there were films about our airmen screened in the evening. In the morning of 7th June there was a press conference and then a take-off for Poland. The time of the start was set exactly to the minute after 80 years at 12.03, which was the time when the first aircraft took off. The flight led to Cracow.

Unfavourable weather – low clouds, led the pilots to fly on almost the direct route, which was probably the way which the aircraft Ab-101 took. The other three aircrafts S-328s flew eastward. Due to the time reasons they did not land in Cracow, but pilots made a fly over one of Cracow’s airports. The flight to Deblín and landing at the local military base followed. After a tour of the museum, the entire crew – 14 people (including two pilots and a mechanic) – set out for a return trip to Jihlava, where they landed shortly after 8 pm.

Czechoslovak pilots on the fronts of World War II have always belonged among the best. The more is the persecution and ingratitude they received shortly after the war a matter of deep reflection. Czechoslovak history has many interesting events that many people are not aware of and many citizens we can be proud of.

A meeting of experts on child burns

For the first time in the history of the Burn Medicine Clinic (KPM FNKV), an international professional event focused on the treatment of burns, resp. burn children was held. The Prague Crossroads area, where the event took place from May 21st to May 24th, 2019, symbolized not only the historical and cultural centre of the capital, but also the place where the paths of education and progress are crossing.
MUDr. Robert Zajíček, PhD., Head of KPM FNKV acted as the event moderator.

ECPB (European Club for Paediatric Burns) is an international community of experts in the treatment of paediatric burns with a 20-year tradition. As a non-profit organization, ECPB has set itself the main task of combining different expertise in the treatment of paediatric burn worldwide. The main topics of this year’s European Burn Club Workshop (ECPB 2019) were modern technologies, i.e. lasers, artificial skin, nanofibers, and simulations of mass accident disaster associated with high numbers of burned children. The workshop also included the presentation of KPM FNKV work in the non-profit sector within the Bolíto (Ithurts)association. ECPB 2019 was an ideal opportunity to establish contacts and deepen the collaboration that KPM FNKV has developed with, e.g. the University of Zurich or Schriners Hospital in Galveston, USA.

Very interesting personalities from all over the world have been lured to Prague. Dr. Habib Quasimwas undoubtedly an important guest. He established the Children’s Burns Department in Kabul and was awarded the prestigious Zora Janžekovič prize in 2018. We had the pleasure to speak with him at Promedica’s stand and exchange some precious knowledge and experience regarding Smith & Nephew materials.

We had opportunity to communicate with many experts and familiarize ourselves with the procedures at various workplaces within the Czech Republic. The Wound Care Division was at the stand reinforced by Stefanie Ascher BScN, Clinical Application Specialist, who launched there the Moleculight imaging device. Another most frequently mentioned Smith & Nephew product was BIOBRINE (temporary skin replacement). Biobrine has also been mentioned in many professional lectures that we could follow.

It was a very strong and meaningful conference. Thank you for your invitation and we appreciate that we were able to participate in this high-grade event.

XXVII. Annual Congress of the Czech Society of Cardiology

From 12th to 15th May 2019, our Interventional Radiology and Cardiology Division, together with the Medical Technologies Division, participated in the XXVII. Annual Congress of the Czech Society of Cardiology. It was already our fourth participation in this congress, which is traditionally held every year in Brno.

At the stand, the medical devices of IRK division for a short-term micro axial percutaneous catheter support were represented by Impella CP, Impella RP and Impella 5.0 by Abiomed, which our guests could view and also try on our functional demonstration model. This product was of great interest to the professional public. There were printed materials and product presentations available. Another product that was at Promedica’s stand was the long-term heart support JARVIK, also demonstrated on a functional model that once again attracted interest from congress participants.

We rate this year’s Czech Society of Cardiology Congress as very successful with the possibility to establish a cooperation with new business partners.

Trends in personnel protection at operating theatres and in sterilization

On May 23, 2019, PROMEDICA INSTITUT s.r.o. in cooperation with the Disinfection and Sterilization and the Surgical Program Divisions of Promedica organized an expert seminar on trends in personnel protection at operating theatres and sterilization in the friendly Hotel Golf in Prague. The lectures were devoted to a wide range of topics and dealt with a number of problems encountered in operating theatres and sterilisations. Foreign lecturers gave lectures mainly on different methods in sterilization (containers vs. soft packaging), new materials (SMS materials) and new concepts while ensuring higher hygiene standards in operating theatres. A large part of the lectures focused on the appropriate use of gloves as PPE and their suitable selection. The lecture on personnel safety from the point of view of the constitutional hygienist was also very inspiring. At the end of all lectures the participants had the opportunity to raise questions and comments. The discussions were very lively and the participants exchanged their own views among themselves.

All questioned participants praised both the content of the seminar and the organization of the event as such. The seminar was attended by 48 experts of various specialties. The event was included in the lifelong education of non-medical healthcare workers by the Czech Nurses Association.

There were 8 lectures given by 7 speakers. Five lectures were presented in English by the representatives of Halyard, Ansell and Ecolab companies.
