13th Congress of Czech Paediatricians and Nurses

From 13th to 15th September 2018, our ENT and Medical Technology Divisions participated in the 13th Congress of Czech Paediatricians and Nurses organized by the Czech Paediatric Society in cooperation with the Professional Association of Practical Paediatricians and the Association of Practitioners for Children and Adolescents. The three-day congress brought new findings from paediatrics and related disciplines. There were four plenary sections with prestigious speakers during the congress held – Professor Cyril Höschl, Professor Martin Wabitsch from Ulm, Professor Wieland Kiess from Leipzig and Professor Ludmila Podracká from the Children’s Clinic from Bratislava. The plenary lectures focused on children’s haematology, oncology, leukaemia and modern methods in children anaemia diagnostics were also part of the congress.

For the ENT division a lecture with the title “Current Trends in Performance on the Adenosine Tissue” was given by MD. Daniel Groh, FortMedica s.r.o. The main focus of the lecture was the use of the plasma cobalt method during the procedure. The lecture captured the audience’s attention, and at the end of the lecture there was a lively discussion with doctors.

At our exhibition stand, the Medical Technology Division presented ALOKA-HITACHI ultrasonic devices – Arietta 60 and Arrieta 70 types. Throughout the congress, we had the opportunity to meet our existing clients as well as to get acquainted with new doctors in this field. We have witnessed a great deal of interest in our exhibition stand with our ultrasonic ALOKA-HITACHI ultrasonic devices.

Implantation of JARVIK in IKEM

On Thursday 23rd August our IRC Division supported the implantation of long-term left ventricular assist device JARVIK 2000 in Institute of Clinical and Experimental Medicine (IKEM). JARVIK is a unique heart pump that supports the circulation in patients whose left ventricle is in the terminal stage of heart failure and can take over the function of the left ventricle in case of its complete failure. Thus, the patients with practically unfunctional pumping function of the heart have a chance to survive. The heart assist device JARVIK 2000 is certified to secure the patients until a suitable donor is found for transplantation; however, it could serve as a destination therapy for the rest of patient’s life. In a small percent of cases the heart function recoveries during mechanical support so that the patient’s heart can sufficiently perform its pumping function and the mechanical support is no longer necessary.
PROMEDICA PRAHA GROUP, a.s. is the only company in the Czech Republic, that offers a heart assist device with a power cable connected behind the ear (postauricularly) into an implanted connector. Compared to the competitors whose power cable leads to the abdominal region, this concept has the benefit of lower infection rate in the outlet site. Also, the lower mechanical stress of the power cable leads to a minimal risk of cable damage. Moreover, the postauricular cable allows the patients to swim and sink under the water.
The whole surgery was unique and required thorough preparations. Regarding the worsening conditions of the patient, there were only five days left for the preparation, including the weekend. Our division provided the supply of the assist device itself and the instruments required for the implantation. We also provided the expert support for the operation team by the presence of a proctor Professor MD. Massimo Masseti from Rome, the head of the cardiovascular centre of the University Polyclinic Agostino Gemelli, and of a representative of JARVIK company Dave Thomas from the United States, the sales manager of JARVIK company.
A thorough training of the medical personnel preceded the surgery; not only of the operation theatre personnel, but also of the nurses and physicians, who are currently taking care of the patient in cardiosurgical resuscitation unit, those who are going to take care of the patient in a cardiosurgical ICU and the personnel who will discharge the patient home and who will follow up during outpatient care.
The surgery started on Thursday at 8 a.m. by getting the patient ready in the operation theatre. The procedure itself started at 9 a.m. Four surgeons were working on the patient at the same time. In one moment, the connector attached to the skull was being prepared and simultaneously the patient was attached to the extracorporeal circulation. Subsequently the thoracic access and the heart access for implantation was prepared. The preparations took about one hour. The assist device was prepared and tested before implantation, afterwards it was implanted and sewed for next 45 minutes. Closing the operation wound, disconnecting the patient from the extracorporeal circulation and setting the parameters of JARVIK took the rest of the time. After 3.5 hours the patient was taken to cardiosurgical resuscitation unit.
The surgery was performed by Professor MD. Ivan Netuka, Ph.D., the director of the Cardiovascular surgery department and Associate Professor MD. Jiří Malý, Ph.D., the Deputy director for science and research head of the Operating theatres with his assistants under the leadership of Professor Massimo Masseti. Apart from the surgeons, there were other staff members present in the operation theatre, without whom it would not be possible to perform the surgery – the anaesthesiologists, the perfusionists, the echocardiographists, scrub nurses and theatre nurses.
One day after the surgery, the patient was woken up from anaesthesia, extubated and detached from the mechanical ventilation. His condition is getting better currently. We believe that JARVIK 2000 will provide him the support for his full life.

Air is our sea

A reminder of the famous past of our Air Force took place on 22 August 2018 in front of the Czech Republic Army General Staff building on Vítězné náměstí. Czechoslovakia belonged among the Air Force Superpowers, we had several airplane factories, our sportsmen carried medals from the world aviation competitions. Our pilots were also among the best in the battles of the World War II. Despite a partial retreat from our positions, we still belong to the advanced aerospace countries, including, for example, being one of a few world’s jet aircraft manufacturers.
If we want the Czech aviation to continue to be a domain that will rank us among the world’s leaders not only in the army, it is necessary to promote this field.
An exhibition with the distinctive title: “Air is our Sea – Looking back on the first decades”. serves precisely this purpose. This event was attended by the Czech Spitfire Club supported by PROMEDICA PRAHA GROUP, a.s. with the Supermarine Spitfire.

Delivery of the Euroclinic Examination Unit

On August 15, 2018, we have installed at the ENT clinic of MUDr. Fořt (FortMedica s.r.o.) the first examination unit from Euroclinic. The unit includes a microscope, video string with HD camera system and is equipped with 4 castors chair.
At the clinic, physicians deal with a vestibular disorder “vestibular syndrome” that can only be diagnosed with special devices such as: STABILOMETRIC PLATFORM, VESTIBULAR VIBRATOR, FUNCTIONAL HEAD IMPULSE TEST, which were also ordered and delivered.
Another device we delivered at the ENT department was the RINOMANOMETER. This instrument can measure nasal passage before and after nose operations. In addition, the device is used for examination of the patients who suffer from snoring.

We wish you many happy patients!

PPG remembers the heroes

PROMEDICA PRAHA GROUP supported families of fallen soldiers in Afghanistan through an official fundraising collection.

The three Czech service members were killed on August 5 by a suicide bomber while conducting a joint foot patrol. The suicide bomber blew himself up in their close distance near their Bagram base at the moment when the patrol approached him with the targeting weapons during their patrol.
Those who are interested can support our heroes’ families at the account of charity collections established by the Military Solidarity Fund by the end of August.

With respect,
Pavel Hanuš

Representatives of the Army of the Czech Republic, NATO and RAF remembered at Klárov the 100th anniversary of the aviation

For several years in a row, an event commemorating the day when our fighters landed in Prague at the Ruzyně airport in 1945 is organized in Prague on the 14th August. They arrived after a several-day journey from England where they helped to win the victory over the fascist and Nazi evils in a heavy air combat where they were fighting alongside their British, Polish, Canadian, American and other mates and brought freedom back to our country.
Our airmen wanted to arrive in Prague in May, but unfortunately they were not allowed to do so and could not return to the liberated country until the August. Nevertheless, they could at least come back in a new type of Spitfire, the aircrafts that were flown in our country for three years before they were sold to Israel. This year’s event took place in Malá Strana, Prague, near the Winged Lion Memorial. In addition to many special guests and war veterans, the Czech Spitfire Club supported by PROMEDICA PRAHA GROUP, a.s. with the Supermarine Spitfire model took participated there and helped to create a dignified air for this piety event.
