XXIXth CSARIM

The XXIXth edition of CSARIM took place on 5-7 October 2023. It is the largest congress so far in this spirit. The congress of the Czech Society of Anaesthesiology, Resuscitation and Intensive Care Medicine was successful for a large number of participants from both medical and non-medical professions. The congress was attended by 512 physicians and 346 non-medical staff. Similarly, a large number of exhibitors also presented at this congress.

Our stand was in a strategic location and we enjoyed a really large attendance of professionals from the Czech Republic and Moravia and also, for example, staff from the SZM department. Promedica enriched the congress with the participation of the divisions of Interventional Urology and Venous Therapy and the division of Intensive Care Medicine.

The IUVT division presented the portfolio of the new supplier Bedal – unique catheter fixation for both CVC, picc and midline. The uniqueness lies in the fact that the catheter is no longer sutured and the Bedal solution offers a three-point fixation that will be especially appreciated by the patient and the attending medical staff. The next presentation was the portfolio of Plan1Health and Angiodynamics, who offer a portfolio of midline, picc and ports.

The IM division mainly presented Sinapi chest suction, Microcuff cannulae and VR T-adapter. They took away new enquiries and customers from their meetings.

We consider this congress to be one of the most important ones and we are looking forward to the next XXX anniversary edition, which will be hosted by the city of Brno. We are also very pleased with the kind treatment and thanks for participation from the chairman of the committee, Prof. Vladimír Černý, M.D., Ph.D., FCCM, FESAIC.

Liver Elastography 2023

On 8 September 2023, we participated as a general partner in the one-day conference Liver Elastography 2023, which took place at the O2 Universum conference centre in Prague. It was the 3rd conference on ultrasound elastography of the liver and non-invasive diagnosis of liver diseases.

Ultrasound elastography of the liver has fundamentally changed clinical practice and is now a routine examination. Multiparametric ultrasound of the liver then represents a new concept of a complete non-invasive diagnosis, which allows a diagnosis to be made in a single examination.

Given the prevalence of FUJIFILM/HITACHI ultrasound in most departments dealing with this issue, we have chosen a general partnership. A number of doctors who already use our ultrasounds as well as new potential customers stopped by the booth.

The organiser was the Department of Hepatogastroenterology, IKEM

We are very pleased to have been able to participate in this event.

84th Congress of the Czech Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery ČLS JEP

From 31 May to 2 June 2023, the 84th Congress of the Czech Society of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery ČLS JEP took place. The Czech National Otorhinolaryngology Congress returned to the metropolis of South Bohemia after 25 years. The venue of the congress was the Congress Hotel Clarion in České Budějovice. The organizer of the congress was Lubor Mrzena, M.D., Ph.D. from the ENT Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, Hospital České Budějovice, a.s.

The main topics of this year’s congress were rhinology and laryngology. Traditionally, there was also a rich section of free communications, panels of poster presentations and a professional programme of non-medical health professionals. A rich social and accompanying programme with an evening surprise in the form of fireworks, which took place in the Castle Riding Hall in Český Krumlov, certainly contributed to the festive character of the congress.

At our stand, we presented the entire portfolio of the ENT division, including Smith & Nephew devices, plasma coblation devices, examination units, chairs and EUROCLINIC diagnostic devices for ENT departments. We met with ENT specialists from both the Czech Republic and abroad and we are pleased that our cooperation with customers is positively perceived.

XXVI. CSOT NATIONAL CONGRESS

From 17 May to 19 May, the XXVI. CSOT NATIONAL CONGRESS ran this time under the auspices of I. Orthopaedic Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine and St. Anne’s Hospital. Promedica traditionally participated as one of the main partners of this event.

The congress was attended by more than 700 participants and was historically the most attended congress in modern history. The main focus of the Orthopaedics Division’s presentation was implants in the field of total joint replacement and arthroscopy from Smith+Nephew.

Our stand was one of the most sought after and there was perhaps not a moment during the day when the stand was empty. Once again the National Congress was a boon, both in connecting with existing clients and in establishing new business opportunities.

The 11th Ostrava Diabetes Day

The 11th Ostrava Diabetes Day took place on 2 June 2023 in the Brick house of the Lower Vítkovice area. Traditionally, we also supported the event with our personal participation, implemented by two Ostrava diabetes centres. On the agenda were mainly this year’s novelties in the field of diabetic retinopathy screening using fundus camera. The programme presented the current possibilities of this examination in the diabetologist’s outpatient clinic, including the system of the company Aireen, with which we are establishing cooperation, among other things, through mutual access to events. Therefore, for the second time this year, a practical demonstration of the fundus camera with the possibility of a retinal examination for the participants of the conference also appeared at our stand.

In addition to the above-mentioned innovations, the programme focused on urological and nephrological complications of diabetes, their early detection and the cooperation between diabetologists, urologists and nephrologists.

Among the lecturers were prominent representatives of all the above-mentioned specialties, including the scientific secretary of the Czech Diabetological Society of J.E. Purkyně MUDr. Jan Šoupal, Ph.D., who presented the above-mentioned screening options.

In addition to the mentioned Aireen technology, our stand presented the traditional portfolio of glucose meters and applications. Also on display were supplements for patients with diabetes from the ArgoMed range.

Every year, the organizers, the heads of the diabetes centres, MUDr. Radka Nágelová (FN Ostrava) and MUDr. Jitka Homolová (MN Ostrava – Fifejdy), try to make the programme more unusual. This time it was a presentation of the Museum of Diabetes, a lecture dedicated to the history of insulin pumps and a travelling exhibition of pictures of children with diabetes on the theme “My friend insulin”.

The participation of the 120 doctors and nurses from the region present shows the great interest in this event, which we wish good luck and ideas for the next decade.

39th Interregional Days of Clinical Biochemistry Litomyšl 2023

The traditional conference focused mainly on clinical biochemistry took place on 30-31 May. It was the 39th edition of one of the oldest seminars, which is dedicated not only to clinical biochemistry and has recently become more broadly focused with the presentation of other important laboratory disciplines. We can name hematology, immunology, molecular biology and genetics.

There have also been lectures on malnutrition, energy deficiency in athletes and toxicology. We also listened to several case studies that perfectly link the activities of human laboratories and our own clinical departments. The two-day meeting was held in excellent facilities with a large lecture hall and an associated presentation area for the participating companies. All in the vicinity of the beautiful surroundings of Litomyšl Castle.

The event was attended by 130 participants, laboratory professionals mainly from three regions (South Bohemia, Kralovehradecky and Pardubice). The guarantor of the seminar was the doyen of clinical biochemistry Prof. MUDr. Vladimír Palička, CSc., Dr. h. c. The symposium was held under the auspices of the General Director of the Hospital of the Pardubice Region, MUDr. Tomáš Gottvald. The whole seminar was perfectly organized by the head of the Clinical Biochemistry Department of Litomyšl Hospital, MUDr. Věra Suková. Our division was present among 20 other exhibitors, practically, with few exceptions, none of the current major suppliers of laboratory diagnostics was missing.

We are extremely pleased to be able to participate in events of this type.

Brodovy dny 2023

The 10th Educational Symposium of the Czech Society of Nephrology called Brodovy dny took place in Mikulov from 3 to 5 May 2023. There are not many educational events in the field of nephrology and transplantology during the year, therefore a huge number of doctors came to Mikulov. Special guests were professors from Vienna. They were given the opportunity to share their experience with innovative therapies in hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis as well as immunosuppression and monoclonal therapy in transplantology.

The subtitle of the symposium “Advances in Diagnosis and Treatment in Nephrology” predetermined the topics of the medical and nursing session programs.

Wednesday’s presymposium mainly addressed the topic of patient placement on the waiting list and the associated algorithm of patient investigation, including cardiology. Practice confirms the rise of preemptive inclusion of patients in the waiting list, i.e. inclusion before starting regular dialysis treatment. As a result, transplant centres are breaking records in the number of kidney transplants year after year.

Thursday’s symposium focused on modern renoprotection approaches. A recent topic has been the effective treatment of cardiorenal syndrome.

The Friday morning session of lectures addressed the diagnosis and treatment of primary and secondary nephropathies. There was also a look at the possibility of genetic diagnosis and news from paediatric nephrology. The afternoon session provided valuable information on the possibilities and use of HIF inducers in the treatment of renal anaemia. Furthermore, there were new developments in peritoneal dialysis and apheresis methods, to which more and more departments have recently been reaching out. The symposium ended with a session on infections in nephrology.

From our point of view, MUDr. Hladinova’s lecture on HIF inducers (prolyl hydroxylase inhibitors), presented as a suitable alternative to ESA (erythropoiesis stimulating agents) treatment of anemia, was beneficial. This addressed in detail the advantages of use over conventional drugs stimulating erythropoiesis via the EPO receptor. The view of the treatment of anaemia has changed considerably since the introduction of ESAs into clinical practice, with the safety of treatment being prioritised over normalisation of haemoglobin values. HIF stabilisers act through stimulation of erythropoiesis genes and thus represent a novel mechanism in the treatment of anaemia. In clinical trials, these agents have shown the same efficacy in increasing haemoglobin levels as conventional ESAs and their safety profile is particularly highlighted. In addition, administration leads to reduced i.v. iron consumption in patients. The oral form suggests the advantage of administration to patients in predialysis and peritoneal dialysis. However, they are also approved for administration to haemodialysis patients, especially recommended for those with higher inflammatory parameters and hyporesponsiveness to ESA. In addition to Roxadustat and Daprodustat, others in the HIF stabilizer series are already in the approval process.
